There is no difference. Just whatever the college wants to call it.

What is better, a Master in Finance or a Masters in International Business
What is better, a Master in Finance or a Masters in International Business?
And does it make a huge difference what degree I get? Can't find any jobs at all, so I was thinking of going back to school for a graduate degree in business.

I would suggest finance with an embedded CFA qualification eg http://www.usfca.edu/artsci/grad/financial_analysis/index.html The CFA qualification is very well thought of and even in this lousy climate has good job prospects eg the FBI would love to hear from you (financial crime detection and investigation is in demand right now). Thanks Bill

"Although there is much overlap with an MBA, the MSF provides a broader and deeper exposure to finance, but more limited exposure to general management topics. Thus, an MSF focuses on finance and financial markets, while an MBA, by contrast, is more diverse, covering general aspects of business not dealt with in the MSF - such as human resource management and operations management. Note that an MBA without a specialization in finance will not have covered many of the topics dealt with in the MSF (breadth), and - often even where there is specialization - those areas that are covered may be in less depth. (Some MBA candidates will "dual major" with an MBA/MSF, or later pursue an MSF degree, to gain specialized finance knowledge; some universities also offer this combination as a joint degree.) "

The MBA is a broad general degree that trains you for management in any area of an organization. The MS is narrowly focussed in its field and trains you for high level staff positions, often involving research and analysis but not management. So a lot depends on your career goals. You can use the Official MBA Guide, a free service, to locate suitable MBA programs.

Hey, Obtaining an advanced degree, such as a Master's Degree, abroad may become tricky in trying to establish a career in the U.S. When it comes to private agencies or organizations, they tend to allow foreign degrees, while public agencies such as the Federal government will mandate that you have your degree sent through an American Accrediation Service. These services are what certify U.S. Colleges/Universities to give students vaild degrees. The service is really a pain in the butt to go through, but it's necessary if the organization asks for it. I am an American currently obtaining my Master's Degree in London and have done much research and inquired to many individuals as to what I must in-order to achieve my career goal. Good Luck, and I think you should go for it.

Where could you employ a MEDIA PERSON with a Master in Finance
Where could you employ a MEDIA PERSON with a Master in Finance?
Hi. I am doing an internship in Capital Markets which is a very specialized area and I am learning the basics. I studied Media before, Communications. These guys are telling me to work in a field of media where knowledge of finance is needed, or start bottom bottom at my age in a lousy job in Finance. Could anyone tell me in which enterprises could you need a person who has the creative and a bit of the financial world?

I have no idea personally, but have you contacted your alma mater for career services? Most colleges have a Career Services department that helps place graduates with jobs, they may also be able to point you in the right direction. Also, have you kept in contact with any former professors? They can be a big help assuming you have a good relationship. Good luck with everything!

should i get my master in finance or global marketing
should i get my master in finance or global marketing?
I have a dual degree in Business Administration and Marketing as an undergrad. I am deciding whether I should get my master in finance or global marketing which are both offered at my school, Virginia Commonwealth University. Which will make me more marketable and give me more opportunity in climbing the ladder as well as make more money?

It depends on the general field you're hoping to land in. I would think global marketing is a more valuable key to the future than finance though.

Yes you can work in investment banking. Starting base salary of $100k+ with an additional bonus on top of that (I'm sorry I have no idea what bonuses on the Street are now for associates, maybe someone else does). Best universities are MIT, LBS, Princeton, WUSTL, etc.

seems like you wasted your entire college experience shouldn't you have chosen a career before going to college? what did you expect to be able to do with a degree in "Humanities"? - I can't think of anything except teaching Humanities and a bachelors degree won't be enough to teach in college and how could you possibly expect to be able to handle anything business related in a graduate program with no business undergrad degree?
2
if you don't wish to work in finance, apply for government jobs that only care that you have a masters regardless of the major. There are a ton of those jobs.

Is a Master of Finance and Taxation good to have
| Is a Master of Finance and Taxation good to have? I already have my undergrad degree in Finance, but can't really find any jobs. Would a Master of Finance and Taxation good for future career opportunities? Or should I rather do a Master of International Business? Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions : 1 I would rather do finance and taxation. Governments are always saying they will simplify taxation law to make taxation experts redundant - but I doubt they will do it. Far too many vested interests in all that convoluted legislation. That being the case job prospects do look bright for a long time into the future. Thanks Bill 2 You should get your masters of international business. Finance jobs are scarce right now and I think you should branch off to another field. I just completed my masters and it has already helped me to get job offers and interviews. I'm not sure if you have a program picked out already but ill attach a link for a good one. Good luck with everything. |
