Bachelors in Psychology, Now can I get a masters in finance or an MBA? Or did I have to major in business?
I have a bachelors degree in Psychology from USC, and was now wondering if I can get an MBA or a masters in finance. Or did I have to major in buisness related studies to gain admission into an MBA program? Could I get a job pretty easily at a company like Raymond James or Northwestern Mutual with a masters in finance or an mba?

Simply apply for CAT Exam and get high score for getting admission to first rate B-schools and join for MBA .After sucessfully completing the course select the company on your choice for employment.

2
First see if the school you plan to attend will accept any BA/BS to apply for their MBA program.

3
You can major in anything and go on to earn an MBA - but if you don't have any prior exposure to finance-related courses or background in the field, you may find it a little tricky to break in. If you need to, consider taking some continuing ed courses while you're building up the general work experience you'll need to get into a good program, which in turn will help you land an interview with top companies.

Master's in finance generally do not require work experience, although the top schools require very good undergrad grades. MIT and Princeton offer the top MSF programs in the world, and the price for each is around $100,000. If you want to be an investment banker and do M&A, then an MBA will be far better, but if you want to work in asset management/hedge funds, the MSF will be good.

2
Some programs may prefer work experience. Most MBA programs want students with work experience. Many schools that offer the MBA also offer the MS. Consult the Official MBA Guide. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria.

Get your masters! Businesses respect it more. Trust me, if you haven't gone to proessional school, you can get a job. However if you have a masters you can go a lot further, faster. I would choose accounting, it's more reputable.

3
if you plan on sitting for the cpa typically you'll need extra hours, but i would look to be hired on and then take night courses to obtain additional credits (if needed- we need extra in ohio) most of my college friends have obtained jobs and are going to start working while studying towards the cpa b/c of the 1 year we need of experience rule. finance was my other major and i didn't want to sell securites, get into banking or anything like that so i went with accoutning joe

4
Why don't you do both.get a job in accounting and get your masters while you work.

5
Nowadays.... Going for the master's (WITH AN MBA) IS essential. I know three CFOs (Chief Financial Officers) in some corporations and they would be nothing if they did not have their master's WITH MBA. Go for it. In the future (particularly in THIS field), you will not be sorry and with a masters WITH MBA, you will put yourself in a competitive field and not just in ann ordinary field... Believe me. Costs money... yes.. I went to the University with NO money and worked my whole way thru at the University and a small loan. I do not regret it in the least.

6
get some experience and work on your masters degree at night. You'll run into the same problem in a year or 2 with a masters degree and no experience --> and at that point the problem might actually be a bigger problem. no experience is worse the longer you wait. i graduated with a BS in accounting with minors in Comp Sci & Economics with little experience. I worked for a year and then found a company to pay for my MBA. The experience in that year got me the job and the job got me my MBA.

I'm not sure you'd want to waste your money and time on one that does not require the GMAT. The GMAT is given to ensure students are qualified for the rigors of a proper MBA curriculum. If a school does not weed out unqualified students up front, that, to me, indicates the students and the school's curriculum are below average. If the students are below average, that means the professors will have to dummy down what they teach. In which case, you will be getting less than a proper MBA education. You may find a good school that does not require the GMAT, but I can just about guarantee you it will require something equivalent in its stead. In my case, for example, I did not have to take a GMAT to enter a good business school for my PhD. But instead, I had to take five undergraduate business courses in finance and marketing before I could even begin my PhD seminars.

2
Frequently, Economics M.S. programs will allow you to submit GMAT or GRE test scores; that may be an option for you. I doubt you will find any major universities that do not require GMAT scrores for an MBA or M.S. in Finance… maybe one of those online degree programs, but those are probably a waste of time if you expect the type of jobs that graduate degrees usually open the doors for.

having a masters is great! you're well on your way! want to buy a house in texas???

2
I made $150K all in with bonus the year I graduated from undergrad. Times are tighter now though. What do you want to do in the finance field? And what is your work experience background in finance? It's all a factor of where you get in. For example. A first year banking associate makes $95K, then has a $50-60K sign on bonus and year end bonus. So they would make that kind of money.

3
How good of that school? If it is a top 10 in the area, you should not be worried. You should try to get CFA as well. It will help a lot. Consulting company will give you that kind of money.

4
depends on what you consider a good school and what your experience entails. 150k in the banking, pe, hedge fund world is easily doable. accounting, ops, and other back office functions may take much longer. in addition, you need to take into account geographic salary adjustments.

5
don't know but please let me know when you get it~

"Finance" is a very broad term. There may be 10,000 different job descriptions that you could classify as being in the "finance" field. If you don't already know someone that is making the money you want, then you are probably a long way from there. First, you need to identify the job you want.

8
Your question is too broad and unclear !! Please state what you mean by "decent experience" ? What is the field in which you are employed ? What is your level of Exposure ? Unless details are available, any answer to your question will be hypothetical and far from reality !!!

I've always wanted to get an MBA mostly specializing in Finance because I like Corporate Finance, Investment, Portfolio Management, Equity, ect. Now, I've been looking at LSE and they have a Master of Science in Accounting and Finance and the program really has everything I am interested in. My only issue is that if I get admitted to LSE, I'll most likely be working in America. Is a Master in Finance less recognized than the famous MBA?

MBA: It's a Master of Business Administration degree, granted after one to two years of graduate-level university study that provides training in the theory and practice of business management. The MBA is basically a document that certifies that you have a general competency in all the major functional management roles you'll find in the modern corporation. An MBA is a career accelerator across a number of industries and MBA graduates can usually command higher salaries. Specialized MBAs offer more advanced study in a particular area of business (such as marketing) or a particular industry (such as higher education). MSc in Accounting and Finance: The goal of the MSc in Accounting and Finance is to convey acknowledged and modern theories and methods in the fields of banking, insurance management, accounting and tax theory. The Master program should motivate students to develop a self-contained and critical familiarization with the curriculum's content. This way, analytical skills and a critical consciousness to analyze problems and find appropriate solutions will be facilitated.

In this era you need to be very well specialized.. Therefore I recommend you going for a master in finance.. the economy is shaky, therefore you will be guaranteed a job that is more specialized especially now in finance

2
Given what you want, the MS in finance is probably the better choice. The MBA degree was originally created because people were promoted to managerial positions, and often they did not know how to manage, although they were good engineers, or scientists, or factory workers. Companies needed managers who could understand what the workers were saying, and managers without the factory floor experience often did not understand the people they supervised. Business schools responded by creating the MBA degree. It is a general degree designed to train student to enter any area of management up to CEO. MBA programs accept students with any undergraduate degree. MBA students study accounting, finance, marketing, management, statistics, economics, strategy, policy, and other courses. Many MBA programs offer concentrations in these and many other fields, but that amounts to only 2-3 courses in your chosen field in the second year of study. The MBA is in contrast to the MS degree which trains students to reach higher levels of knowledge in their specialty so that they can serve as better staff and researchers, with no intention of becoming high level managers. Many schools that offer MBA programs also offer the MS degree you want. Hmm. If you're talking about straight finance (discounted cash flows, etc.), then pretty basic algebra is all you need. If you're comfortable with exponents, then that's about it (1+r)^n. If you're talking about general Economics, then that is a different story altogether. I took a graduate Macroeconomics class once that use several concepts from Calculus III (Lagrange multipliers, etc.). If your masters degree is geared toward the real-world application of finance such as an MBA degree, then you'll be just fine with very basic algebra and you should spend your time getting comfortable with financial modeling. If you're looking into a more academic course of study that would involve broader economic concepts, I would hit as much calculus as you can. Seriously. Graduate level economics is no joke when it comes to math. Good luck!

I personally against MBA and ideally, one should do specialisation in one topic and then do the MBA. Please note that MBA from the tier 1 university always been ahead from others and at the same time MBA from other univ is as bad as studying in 3rd world univ. I would say that try to get into top tier univ and do your mba. it will pay you off. you can select the univ with your own ranking. and that ranking should include; 1. your personal preference 2. reputation 3. return on investment 4. student-teacher ratio 5. salary increment after graduation blah blah... best of luck

2
I would recommend getting your MBA. It will give you more opportunities once you have completed your degree and it will give you a better chance of getting a higher position. There are also programs out there that allow you to get your MBA in a little over a year. It called an amMBA. I just went through the same search process and found a good program. http://www.adelphi.edu/manhattan/business.php

We get this question a lot. In one of our podcasts, we actually interviewed some faculty at some of the top business schools on what they would suggest. Here's a quick description of what the podcast is about: Like anything else in life, there isn’t a single road to a career in Business and Finance. Getting a Master’s in Finance or Economics is, of course, one way; getting an MBA is another. Fiona Sandford is Director of Career Services at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She says the MBA track or the Master’s in Science track can lead to the same career but using different approaches. â€Å“The traditional MBA course exposes you to a wide range of management disciplines, and gives you a way of thinking about management and a career in that area. An MSc in Finance or an MSc in Economics gives you a very rigorous academic approach to finance disciplines or to economics. But it doesn’t, by any stretch of the imagination, preclude you from going on to developing a career in Management as many students do. So I think it depends on individual learning styles.” Listen to the full interview at http://www.mbapodcaster.com/MBA_MoreInfo/MBAvMSF.asp?iEpisode=12. We also have another podcast that will help you understand what to expect from an MBA with a concentration in accounting: http://www.mbapodcaster.com/MBA_MoreInfo/PartIIIVariousMBATracks.asp?iEpisode=43 Good luck! -MBA Podcaster

But I heard their MBA is one of the best in Australia, and Curtin is famous for their commerce degree (both undergradute and postgraduate). Consider which city you like, the tuition fees, living expenses, and also course structure. have you consider UNSW, Macquire Uni, University of Melbourne into your list? they are good uni too. are you planning to work in Aus? if yes, I think it's worth it. hope this help

I am studying a master in Finance but I studied Media before. Now I work in finance and its very hard. Tips

I am studying a master in Finance but I studied Media before. Now I work in finance and its very hard. Tips?
I am finishing my Master in Finance. The problem with my Master Degree was that it was always very advanced and we skipped basics, fundamentals which I lack. I didnt find a decent job a Media, and now I am doing internships in Finance. Everyone perceives my lack of knowledge. I have always been the smart one, and now people dont consider me for good options. And I am not feeling happy because the master happened so fast, and I have a lot to study by myself. And I feel so bad that I dont understand because nobody explained it before and at this rate when I finish I will find a crappy job in finance because of lack of understanding. I know I have to study hard. I am getting tired, I dont have enough time for my life anymore, and I want to mix media with finance because media is my true passion and I will take a few years trying to be good at finance so I can have that option of mixing both worlds. I am very anxious because I need time, and I dont have money anymore. I dont have any option but finance.

1-breath. Slow down and breath. Not to make a comparison I was working full time, doing my MBA in Finance & Marketing while starting a business. It is very stressful and takes a lot out of you. If you do not enjoy what you are studying it is a lot harder. If you really want to learn finance, take your time, you do not have many options to catch up, maybe take some basic classes and take a little longer for your masters, or do what you are doing, study on your own. Use the resources at the school, talk to your professors, let them know you want some help w/ basics because of your background, most of the time they will recommend books and exercises to bring you up to speed. You want the pay-off and you clearly know it will take a few years, you are now paying your dues, giving up your life now for a career and life later, when it is too much think of the final goal and result, mixing media w/ finance . Just give it your all, manage your time, make time for yourself no matter what. Keep chipping at it and before you know it it will be over. Best of Luck

I am assuming you are doing bachelors in Finance. You know that if you want to do ACCA, you don't even need a bachelors degree. Just study for the exams and give the tests. ACCA is done in many countries which have highly british influence. So, is there a high demand for accountants. If there is then you should do ACCA, but it would take time and more hard work. The good thing about Accountants is that they can get a finance job quite easily, but finance people can't get accounting jobs. So, you have widened your market with an ACCA especially when you have a degree in Finance. CFA (certified financial analyst) is a good certification and you could earn more than being an ACCA, but it is risky. Finance people can easily get laid off in a recession, then what would you do. If you want a CFA, you should do ACCA and then get a CFA. ACCA may be equal to a masters degree so you don't have to worry about not getting a masters degree. Check with the country you live at.

It depends on what area of finance you want to do. Surely you realize finance is just a generic term for a huge area. Narrow down your focus so you can start to specialize and get some work experience in the field. For example, if you're interested in corporate finance then don't find something that deals with investments. You can also seek out more generalists type financial positions but honestly, I've found that having an MSF makes you overqualified for such positions so you likely wont find much success as they wont want to pay you extra and/or you wont have the satisfaction needed to stay. Specializing is the key.

It depend on the business policy and situation of your country. consult with an established and experienced man. you also can visit this site to learn about this matter.... http://www.vwvortex.co

2
I would suggest the Master in Finance option, given your background in Maths. CFA can be tough even to those with a Finance degree. So it's better to complete the Masters degree first and then add-on CFA if required.

3
What is your dream profession? If it's fund manager, broker, banker, or anyone dealing with financial markets, get CFA (and CAIA is also good if you want to do hedge funds and alternatives). If you want to be a CFO of a company or auditor or consultant, or if you don't have a very clear idea yet, get the Master's (first). CFA is much more narrowly focused and - let's be honest - quite useless outside Wall Street / London City in your case. Master's in Finance is usually more general. Another aspect is that if you live in a country with expensive university education (like the UK, I don't know about Ireland), CFA may be a cheaper substitute for a Master's. If you're very serious about a career in finance, get both. Btw, you are lucky that you have B. Sc. in Maths. Banks and hedge funds love maths educated people (though this may change of course). ... What about getting a Master's/Ph.D. in Maths + CFA?

is it better to achieve a master's in finance and mba in Entrepreneurship at the same time or separately

is it better to achieve a master's in finance and mba in Entrepreneurship at the same time or separately?
I would like to earn a master's in finance. The problem is I also want to go on business ventures later on. Would I be better off attempting only the finance degree now n wait to get an in MBA in Entrepreneurship or simply combine them both?

Most good business schools over finance classes related to venture capital, so you can always take those, and get a feel for how to raise money for your business. In my opinion, Entrepreneurship is not all that it is cracked up to be. Some of the classes that are offered are instinct-type classes like Negotiation Strategies, and Overviews of Start-up Businesses. You can find that stuff out on your own. I would look into Accounting, or Operations, or Marketing over Entrepreneurship. But definitely go for Finance first and see where that takes you.

2
If some of the classes overlap, many schools will allow you to do both at the same time, and in the process cut down on your overall workload. I just finished my master's degree and saw a small handful of energetic students doing just that. It'll be worth it to get it all done now if you truly want it. Once you start into a job, it will be difficult to push yourself back into school again because your new job will take a lot of your time and devotion to set a good example.

3
MBA in Entrepreneurship sounds phoney to me, dont get me wrong, I have an MBA too, and own a company with my dad and brother. I'm all for education too, but I'd have to go with the finance degree - it's probably more mathematically and budget driven intense, the MBA is probably more about disussion and talking about stuff which would probably benefit you after you get some ownership experience.

How difficult is the curriculum for a Master's in Finance

I'm considering it but did not major in finance as an undergrad. I did well in undergrad business finance, okay in accounting

The issue of difficulty is moot. Finance is the most useless degree you can get. I know, because I have a bachelor's. Most jobs are looking for accountants to fill their finance needs. And all the great jobs go to east coast, ivy league, honor students. If by some chance you happen to be average, you'll toil in average jobs for at least ten years. I'm five years graduated with a finance degree and I finally have a decent finance job like the school counselors described, and I make as much or less than a plumber. If you want to get into business, get into accounting. Learn to audit, especially internal audit. And watch your career soar.

2
How well versed are you in Math? I look at an M.Fin. like a degree in applied math - it teaches you how to develop and use mathematical models. If you did well in math, and have a background that extends up to linear algebra or so, you'll do pretty well. If not, then you may want to go back and take a few more math courses before you begin. Of course, talking to the specific M.Fin. department that you are considering will give you better information than anyone could.

Finance is a big world, and there is much to learn, but you can start with the basics and move up from there. One of the best places to learn about both professional and personal finances is The Motley Fool (fool.com). In terms of professional finance, reading publications like the Wall Street Journal and/or The Economist on a regular basis will get you used to the language, current events, and principles of professional finance.

>"can i get a job teaching at a junior college with a masters in finance?" Sure, if your picked from everyone else with a Masters applying! There are a lot of us out here with Masters degrees that are applying for these coveted adjunct teaching gigs. Also, what makes you think you can teach? As an adjunct instructor myself I know there's more to teaching than just showing up and handing out tests. It's hard work with little pay. You actually have to explain things and know your stuff. I do it because I enjoy it, not because it's a job or I can get rich! "junior colleges", boy have you been out of school for a long time! You mean the Community Colleges? >"don't know how to find the job listings for junior colleges." They post them online! By the time the general population sees them, the colleges already have their short-list of candidates! If your waiting to find a "job listing" from these institutions you'll be collecting Social Security first! Here's a piece of advice, if your that interested, go down to the Community College(s) and introduce yourself. Try providing tutoring to the students. It's called networking! Is this your first time being unemployed in last 20+ years? Consider going back to school yourself to update your skill sets, especially your computer skills!

There is a plethora of different Finance positions. The most prominent would probably be a Portfolio manager(based on salary and market competition), but I would definitely research your options. One thing to consider would be your major. I'm not sure how majoring in Economics is beneficial to a career in Finance. Sure, they have similarities but differences as well. Key thing, Economists deal with possibilities and Financiers deal with meeting those possibilities.

To Finance Master. I have home mortgage, 77K + 10 yrs left. Trying to pay off early (in 5yrs paying $400 extra
is it better to pay $400 extra every month? I also have 17K left for my car 3yrs left. What is the best way? Please help!
Personal Finance - 3 Answers

Compare the interest rates on the loans with the return you could make on the money elsewhere. For example, if you're paying 5% interest on a loan, but you can make 7% in an investment, you're better off investing the extra money than paying off the loan. That's especially true of a home mortgage, because you get a tax deduction which effectively reduces your interest rate. Also for that reason, it might make sense to put extra payments to the car loan before the mortgage (if you decide to make extra payments at all).

2
There's a lot more information here that's needed: Paying your mortgage earlier may not be the best option for you. If you have a nice income, you may enjoy the tax credit for mortgage interest. Paying it early may free up more income, but may cost you at tax time. The money you put into your equity remains yours, you may end up paying the same amount of interest in the end regardless of speed. Check your mortgage paperwork for prepayment details. How old and what kind of car? IMHO money invested into a car is money poorly invested unless its a collectable or an exotic, and even then it's a risky investment. If you are planning on retiring in 5-10 years you might consider saving and investing the $400.00 extra per month. Current reports show that most Americans do not have enough savings to provide for their future. An extra $25k or so prudently invested could be that extra cushion that you and your family needs to make your future dreams come true. Good luck! I run the Debt Reduction Foundation, Inc. If you have a problem with large unsecured debts (15k+), we may be able to help. Give me a call at 888-221-2711 and ask for the Director. If I can't help you, I'll be sure to point you in the right direction.

3
Do you have a small emergency fund? Say $500-1000? If not, set that up first. Next, use the $400 to pay off the car - it probably has a higher interest rate. Even if the home loan has a higher interest rate, pay the car first, because you can deduct mortgage interest from your income taxes, but NOT the interest on the auto loan. Once you pay off the car, make sure you have 6-9 months of expenses (not salary, not take-home) saved up for big emergencies (like getting laid-off). Finally, use any extra money to pay off the house. We paid off our $20,000 auto loan in 20 months by paying an extra $400 every month and putting bonuses and overtime towards it, too.

Do you have to go to a regular college to get an undegraduate's degree and then afterwards go to a different school to get your master's? If someone knows anything about this career path I would really appreciate it if you could help me out by providing a detailed explantion of what I need to do, and maybe give me some advice regarding what steps I should take towards the future. Also, if you could help me find the BEST schools to go with for this particular major that would be great! Thanks.

Finance is one of the highest paid and fastest growing industries. Congratualtions on a good career choice. (I plan to go for finance too) I suggest you first get a management degree majoring in finance. Next, get around three years of work experience and go for a masters degree in Finance and specialize in the specific financial sector you are experienced in and like. Note that some top universities won't let you do masters in management programs (like finance) if you don't have the work experience. After that, you'll be set to live the American dream for the rest of your life. You don't necessarily have to get you undergraduate and graduate from the same university. The BEST schools offering finance majors are Harvard, Yale & Chicago Uni. plus a lot others. Check out for the best schools using magazines like The Economist. Check out this link too. http://www.topuniversities.com/university Try getting into a school that is ranked among the top 100 but let me tell you that in this field, educational degrees will only get you so far. Its highly competitive and the degree matters only when you are applying for the job. After that, all the company will care about is your performance. Good luck and all the best.

Finance and programming usually don't go hand in hand, that sounds something like what the universities are doing on their own. Check different schools. I wouldn't agree that extensive math and econ. knowledge is required. You'll have to take some, but I wouldn't say that you have to be an expert in those areas, by any means. Best luck in your choice.

Pick a visa There are basically NINE ways that you can get a visa to live and work in the US: (1) Marriage (or engagement in anticipation of marriage) to a US citizen. (2) You have skills that are in short supply in the US e.g. scientific or medical training. A degree is normally a must. Or you have superior specialist skills with at least 12 years experience. (H visas) (3) You have an Employer who is willing to transfer you - but even the employer has to make a good case for you - so you have to be a manager unless you fall under category (2) above.(L visas) (4) You may get a Green card in the diversity lottery (UK citizens, except N.Ireland, are not generally eligible unless you, your spouse or parents were born abroad or held a different citizenship. (5)You own or buy business (does not get you permanent resident status i.e. no green card)You must be a national of a qualifying Treaty countries. The business must have a minimum value of around $150k (more the better) bearing in mind you will need somewhere to live and with any startup business you will need at least 2 years living money as back up. So a figure of $350k would be a nearer minimum (E-2 visas) (6)You are an "investor" i.e. you have at least US $1m in assets to bring with you. half of that in a few areas. And your background will be investigated to the hilt. (EB-5 visas) (7)You have a close relative (mother, father, brother, sister and no further) who is an US citizen who would sponsor you, approx time this take 2-12 years? (8.The R1 visa is available to foreign members of religious denominations, having bona fide non-profit religious organizations in the U.S., for entering the U.S. to carry on the activities of a minister or religious worker as a profession, occupation or vocation (9)THE UNUSUAL You are in a position to claim refugee status/political asylum. or You get a member of Congress to sponsor a private bill with legislation that applies just to you. The S visa issued to persons who assist US law enforcement to investigate and prosecute crimes and terrorist activities such as money laundering and organized crime Recruitment agent will not take you seriously if you are not already in the US. Writing for jobs is really a waste of time; likewise US employers have no idea what foreign qualification are or mean (except Degrees) it may pay you to get your qualification translated into a US equivalent, there are Companies that do this (www.wes.org) .. But if you are getting a visa under (2) above then you need a job offer before you can get the visa. Your Employer will be your sponsor this will cost them upward of $5k. So you can see you have to be offering something really special to get considered They may also have to prove to the Dept of labor that there is no American who can do the job if the position is to be permanent ©

They are basically viewed as quite similar, in fact many M.Fin. programs I had looked at will prep you for the first level CFA during the program. To me, it comes down to what you would be doing otherwise. A M.Fin is a full time commitment, while you can fit a full time job around CFA studying alone. A friend of mine did that, studying for the CFA while working full time. If you have a well paying job, I would study for the CFA alone, but if you don't have a well paying job I would do the M.Fin. Of course, you would have to look at your own personal circumstances to determine which route is better for you.

The average cost of an Msc Finance ranges from AUD 14000 to AUD 18000 per year depending on the university. This is approximately Rs 5.5 lac per year in tuition cost. You will also need to factor in the living cost of AUD 12000 i.e. Approx Rs 4.4 lac. Hence total cost for 2 years will be 20 lac. You will need toshow about 22 - 23 lac for the VISA. In case you cannot spend this much. You can go in for a one year diploma at a college which will be much cheaper. In the second year you can transfer to a university to graduate with an Msc Finance. All universities / colleges in Australia are bound by the "Australian Qualification Framework" which is a set of guidelines and practices to be followed by education providers. The quality / difficulty of studies will be nearly the same everywhere accross most universities.

The financial sector right now is experiencing plenty of layoffs, but a lot of them seem to be in investment banks. In a few years, there will be a great need for financial consultants to help people get out of all of the debt that they acquired from people foolishly running up their credit card, buying huge houses, brand new cars, etc. People with a Masters degree in finance can become qualified to help the U.S. out of this financial mess, one person at a time.

Either will, so long as it is at a top school. If not then it just isn't worth the money. If a top school was a given, then it depends on if you want to go in to corporate finance/investment banking, or quant trading/hedge funds. The MBA will be better for investment banking, and the quant finance masters will be better for hedge funds, algorithmic trading, etc.

Good answer by Tangent. for more information about the MBA degree, see the Official MBA Guide. In my opinion an MBA is the best all around choice, as long as it is from a top school. Tangent is correct in that either degree is good if it is froma top school, and that a MS in Quant Finance from a top school is a good way into a hedge fund. Hedge funds tend to hire lots of very quantitative types from a variety of intense academic backgrpounds, physicists, engineers, mathematics etc. That said, there are definitely tons of MBAs working at hedge funds. And outside of hedge funds, MBAs are definitely in higher demand. Few are the job descriptions that specfically ask for an MS whereas many ask for an MBA. Additionally, large, well-paying companies have dedicated, very visible and well-organized recruiting programs at top MBA schools (think GE, Pepsi, Kraft, P&G, Goldman Sachs, Citi, Morgan Stanley, JPM, BofA, Barclays, McKinsey, Bain, Microsoft, Google, etc etc). As MS programs tend to be much smaller, the economies of scale aren´t there to invest so much time in looking for this talent. That isn't to say that that MS folks aren't valued, but you will never have a nearly full-time GE/McKinsey/Citi HR rep on campus at an MS program as I did at my MBA program. Thus, my opinion is that an MBA program is the best and most probable route to a better job of the two choices you give.

Master in Finance or MBA with concentration in Finance in USA

Master in Finance or MBA with concentration in Finance in USA?
I'm looking forward to study Finance, so I'd like to find out which US graduate schools are well-known for their Master in Finance, or MBA with concentration in Finance. I prefer Master in Finance, but it seems not many schools offer this program, and some schools only offer it as a Ph.D, not Master's degree. Please give me any suggestions, thank you very much.

How about the Master of Applied Finance of the university of Macquire in Australia

How about the Master of Applied Finance of the university of Macquire in Australia?
I wanna go to Australia to take my master degree. And I prefer finace to be my major. Some body told me MAF of Macquire is very good but it is very competitive. Also, I had visited their website but could not obtain the information what I want. So if you know something about MAF of Macquire or you are also the member of it (it is better!), give me what you know, such as the fee, the career future, the classes or the classmates, things like that. Thank you so much! Besides that, if you can give me more information about master degree of finance in Australia, it is so nice of you all!

G'day, The information abt Macquarie's postgraduate degrees prices are listed in the first link below. Just download the pdf file and you can see the price. The info abt the MAF are in the second link. There are only 41 universities in Australia and they are tightly controlled, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content. The other universities in Australia that offer MAF are as follows: La Trobe Uni (www.latrobe.edu.au) Monash Uni (www.monash.edu.au) Uni of Newcastle (www.newcastle.edu.au) UWS (www.uws.edu.au) Uni of Wollongong (www.wollongong.edu.au) Uni of Melbourne (www.unimelb.edu.au) QUT (www.qut.edu.au) Uni of QLD (www.uq.edu.au) Uni of Adelaide (www.adelaide.edu.au) Tuition fee & requirements will be available in those websites. Please make sure that the information you accessing are the ones for international students, not for local students, as there are some difference in regards to tuition fees. Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification (in English and original language). The process will take abt 2-3weeks, depending on the time of the year. Hope this helps. E-mail me at mikegun@studentfirst.com.au if you have any further queries abt studying in Australia. Good luck for your study and welcome to Australia :)
